Answers

  1. What is an Autonomous RES system?
    Answer:
An Autonomous RES system is an Energy system that with the use of RES produces enough electrical energy to sustain your yearly Property Consumption without a connection to the Electrical Grid, forever, free of cost during operation, and without the fear of black-outs, power disruptions and increases of the fuel or electricity bills. An autonomous Energy System is best suited for new-built buildings as it can save you the cost of Connection to the Grid.
  2. What is a small RES system for Producers?
    Answer:
A small RES system is a power Plant of small Wind turbine generators or PV panels with a total installed Power less than 50kWe for the Wind Turbines and 20kWe for the PV plants that is connected to the Grid and feeds its electrical energy production to the Grid or the System with the Standard feed-in tariffs applied. The prices offered to the “small” producers per produced MWh are much better than the ones offered to “big” producers, and practically no special permit is required for them.
  3. What is an Energy Saving System?
    Answer:
An Energy Saving System is a low-cost RES system, connected directly to your building switchboard, that can save you up to the whole of your yearly electricity bill (but the City bills and the standard fees).
  4. Can I install a RES system in my property?
    Answer:
As long as your property is owned by you and is not subject to Forestry Authority, Zoning or other Environmental restrictions, you can install a RES system.
  5. What are the restrictions applied to the Aegean islands?
    Answer:
Some of the Aegean Islands are Isolated not only from the Mainland Electrical System but also from their neighboring islands. For these islands for a person or company to install a small RES system, connected to the grid for commercial use, we have to apply to RAE via a special procedure.
  6. How many licenses do I need to be able to install a small RES system for producers(exclusively for commercial use)?
    Answer:
For mainland Hellas, small RES systems for producers or Autonomous systems, do not need any special Licenses, under the condition that they aren't located in areas with specific environmental or legal restrictions. For the islands, there are specific periods in which applications can be submitted (see Links>RAE), due to technical restrictions to power supply. In any case, the only application that cannot be avoided is the one submitted to PPC S.A. for the connection of the RES system to the grid.
  7. How many licenses do I need to be able to install a small home RES system(exclusively for energy autonomy)?
    Answer:
    No special license is required.
  8. Does PPC S.A. let me install a R.E.S. system?
    Answer:
PPC S.A. is a company with stocks and shareholders and not a government authority. PPC S.A. does not have the authority to check or allow/prohibit any electrical installation you wish to make from the PPC S.A. measurement device output and further, as long as you provide an appropriate licensed electrical Engineer certificate and drawings. In the case you do not need to connect to PPC S.A. operated Grid , PPC S.A. is not involved at all. Furthermore PPC S.A. (as for the time being it is the only Electricity provider in the Hellenic State) is obliged to accept any production from a RES producer system at the feed-in tariffs set by the Law.
  9. Are there other costs in excess of the cost of installation of a RES system?
    Answer:
There is the cost of the Environmental Permit, possible building permit for the wind turbine erection, and the cost paid to PPC S.A. for the connection to the Grid.
